Was born and raised on her parents
chicken farm in New York State. It
was during these formative years that her love for music began.
Her parents often took her to local concerts of Woody Guthrie,
Cisco Houston and Pete Seeger,and she grew up listening to records of
blues, jazz and folk music. In the 60's Deborah moved to the hub of
"where the music was" - to Greenwich Village in New York City.
The coffee houses were her training
ground, and to supplement her student life she sang and played guitar as
a solo artist along with other "unknown" artists such as José
Feliciano, Bob Dylan, Richie Havens and John Sebastian.
In 1968 she moved to Italy and enrolled in the Conservatory of
Bologna to study piano. Firmly
established in the Bologna music scene she then founded a club- "Ostaria
delle Dame" along with other Italian musicians such as Francesco
Guccini and Lucio Dalla.
In the 70's Deborah was one of the
few fingerstyle guitarists in Italy and collaborated on many recordings
of Italian artists. Her repertoire ranges from traditional folk-blues to
ballads and features, of course, her own songs.
Her interpretations of songs of other musicians and poets such as
Leonard Cohen, Buffy Sainte-Marie, Bob Dylan and Pete Seeeger are unique.
When not doing concerts she runs a musical instrument store near Verona,
Italy and directs a rock-pop choir- "Coro Woodstock" and a
music school.
Today, thanks to Uberto Pieroni (who introduced Deborah to
Sabino Mogavero, a record producer), she has recorded a entitled "Yesterday
Tomorrow"

Nasce
nello stato di New York da una famiglia di agricoltori amanti della
musica ed amici di Woody Guthrie, Cisco Houston e Pete Seeger.
Negli anni
'60 si trasferisce a Greenwich Village a New York e canta
accompagnandosi con la chitarra con gli allora sconosciuti Bob Dylan,
Richie Havens, José Feliciano e John Sebastian.
Nel 1968 arriva in Italia con una borsa di studio per studiare al
Conservatorio di Bologna. Fonda
con Francesco Guccini ed altri musicisti "L'ostaria delle
Dame" che diventerà un punto di partenza per molta gente dello
spettacolo.
Specialista
del "fingerpicking" (un tipo di arpeggio alla chitarra molto
usato negli Stati Uniti), partecipa a tutte le incisioni discografiche
di Francesco Guccini dal 1969 al 1975.
Nel '71 si
unisce in tourneé a Lucio Dalla come cantante e chitarrista e comincia
a scrivere le proprie canzoni, una delle quali: "e Tornò la
Primavera" viene incisa da Patty Pravo. In 1981 partecipa alla
rassegna del cantautore del Club Tenco.
Il suo
repertorio va dal ragtime al folk-blues, dalle ballate alle sonorità
tipiche della tradizione bianca e nera americana. Attualmente, oltre a
proporsi come cantante e chitarrista solista, dirige il Coro Woodstock
di Villafranca di Verona, dirige una scuola di musica moderna e gestisce
un negozio di strumenti musicali.
Oggi,
grazie a Uberto Pieroni (che ha fatto conoscere alla Kooperman, Sabino
Mogavero (produttore discografico), ha realizzato ed inciso un Cd dal
titolo "Yesterday
Tomorrow"
pubblicato dalla Idyllium Music Publishing di Milano, alcune tra
le opere magnificamente interpretate da Deborah Kooperman, troviamo:
